iCity is a new weekly half hour TV show created for the Chinese satellite TV station
Shanghai Oriental Satellite. The show aims to promote the theme of 2010 Shanghai World Exposition - "
Better City, Better Life."
It will be the first television show in China to innovatively feature viewer-generated video content.
For the first season/year of the show, iCity will focus on Shanghai, San Francisco and London, although viewers from around the globe are encouraged to participate in the show. Each episode of iCity will be divided into three parts, one part for each featured city. With the Shanghai section taking half of the show time, the other two - San Francisco and London - will equally share the rest of the program.
Regardless of camera and editing skills, iCity want viewers of all ages and ethnicities to submit short video(s) featuring aspects of their cities they find interesting.
Here are some examples:
a) The uniqueness of the city you live in.
b) The fun and exciting events happening in the city.
c) Interesting, funny, talented people living in the city.
e) A new fashion trend.
A different life style.
Art, Music, or Culture.
Video projects reflecting creative thinking and unique perspectives are most likely to be selected for broadcast. Documentary style is favored. Works longer than three minutes will not be considered.
Winners of each episode will be awarded with valuable prizes ranging from video equipment (i.e. Sony cameras) to professional editing/camera training programs. At the end of the year, a selected group of viewers (one from each of the featured cities) will be invited to visit Shanghai and work together to create an art project for the Shanghai World Expo.
Through partnership with one of the major websites in China, completed videos are to be submitted via an upload service on a website, much like YouTube and Google Video. iCity can also be viewed in its entirety via the site. Those who miss the broadcast can log onto the website to watch all the episodes as well as those that are not able to be included for air. Web surfers can also vote online for their favorite video projects.
In addition to the edited video projects, viewers are also welcome to submit any rare raw footage, a unique photograph, an interesting piece of artwork, or even just a weird idea.
iCity will selectively include creative material into the show. The professional team of the show will also consider developing selected ideas or proposals into behind-the-scene stories for broadcast.
